Sid Brews Trust



The South African Golf Heritage Trust which was established in 2004 as a non-profit trust, has registered the South African National Museum of Golf' and the 'Southern Africa Golf Hall of Fame' with the Trade Marks Office.

A Hall of Fame Management Company, which is responsible for the day-to-day management will be established in terms of a two-tiered corporate structure, including black empowerment involvement as trustees such that it is BEE compliant, namely:


  1. The South African Golf Development Trust (a non-profit trust company)
  2. The Golf Hall of Fame Management Company

The founder trustees are Dorian Wharton-Hood, Harvey Douglas (resigned), Sir Rupert Gull, Barry Cohen, and Harry Brews (resigned) (Dorian is a Springbok golfer & former CEO of Liberty Life, Harvey was the first South African to be elected Captain of the R&A, Sir Rupert heads up Lloyds TSB Cape, Barry is the former CEO of CANSA, attorney, and divisional director of SuperSport & SA Rugby, whilst Harry was a member of Liberty Life's founding group & is the son of Sid Brews).


Current trustees include The South African Golf Association, Woman's Golf South Africa and Woman's Professional Golf Association.


A Hall of Fame Management Company, which is responsible for the day-to-day management will be established, whilst The Trust will solely and exclusively be utilized to receive ALL funds raised and distribute such trust funds to both the organisational costs and agreed worthy causes, thereby ensuring corporate governance insofar as full disclosure and transparency.


The Harry Brews award is presented in honour of an individuals passion and enthusiasm for Golf.
